We are seeking a motivated Strong Junior / Mid-level Linux/Network DevOps Engineer for a hybrid role in Kyiv. The project is in the MilTech domain (closed environment, hands-on hardware work, and specialized infrastructure).
You will work alongside an experienced Lead Engineer: we will help you get up to speed with project specifics, train you on hardware/OTA details, and ensure a smooth onboarding process.
Employment: Part-time (~20 hours per week) — a great opportunity to combine with your main job or studies.
Compensation: Hourly rate.
Location: Kyiv, office (2–3 times a week as needed — software flashing onto hardware, initial node configuration).

Requirements

• Solid knowledge of TCP/IP, NAT, routing, MTU, VLAN;
• Experience with overlay networks: ZeroTier (or WireGuard / Tailscale) — routes, subnet router, connectivity diagnostics;
• Proficiency in Linux diagnostic utilities: tcpdump, ip route, iptables;
• Understanding of network concepts and ability to configure routers, switches, and PoE equipment;
• Solid experience with Ubuntu (bare metal): systemd, services, autostart, log collection and analysis;
• Containerization: Docker / Docker Compose;
• Automation: ability to write an Ansible playbook or a lightweight automation script;
• Experience with or understanding of Modbus / RS-485 protocols;
• Understanding of OTA update mechanisms (Mender, A/B disk partitioning);
• Background in Linux System Administration, Network Engineering, or IoT/Embedded projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Engineer in deploying, configuring, and maintaining project infrastructure;
• Provision and configure physical nodes from scratch (Ubuntu bare metal) followed by testing;
• Set up and troubleshoot network connections (VPN tunnels, routing, VLAN, switches/routers);
• Write and maintain automation scripts for build and deployment processes (Bash / Python, Ansible, Docker Compose);
• Visit the Kyiv location (2–3 times a week as needed) for hands-on work with hardware (flashing, USB-based deployments, on-site testing).
